So what is it???
It provides your bike with a unique identity that can be traced back to you if it is stolen and recovered, even if it doesn't have a V5 log book or is broken for parts. This is because your bike is marked with a RFID transponder, as well as hundreds of unique micro dots across loads of components... Both contain a unique ID that is registered on a database used by the Police, who carry devices to read the transponder and microdots (invisible to the naked eye).
Depending on the kit you buy, it typically includes:
- An RFID transponder to fit in the seat foam
- An RFID transponder to attach to the wiring harness
- Self-adhesive RFID transponders for panels / large plastic components
- UV 'stealth' etching for painted panels, tank and seat unit
- Tamper evident ID labels for plastics and components
- Minute ‘Datadots’ to spread around the bike in a UV trace adhesive which also contains a unique DNA for your machine
Plus if you sticker your bike up with the Datatag logo stickers provided, it should also act as a theft deterrent.
